Martin Stringer Consultancy

I have been been part of the senior management team at the University of Birmingham and at Swansea University for the last ten years, and I have been in Higher Education for over thirty years.

My most recent work has been in the area of collaboration, working with different universities to establish common programmes or mutual recognition of structures.

I have always been seen as somebody who works well with people.

I would define my most significant skills as follows:

  • Listening, both to individuals and communities
  • Allowing many different voices to be heard
  • Qualitative analysis
  • Collating complex perspectives
  • Communicating difficult messages effectively

This makes me particularly suited to investigations, consultations and dealing with complex and sensitive staffing issues. I have considerable experience in all these areas.

I can also offer advice and support in the following areas:

Governance: Discipline and Grievance; Re-Structuring; Rebuilding morale; The application of ‘kindness’ as a model for management.

Student Engagement and Learning: Student Voice; Innovation in learning, teaching and assessment; Enabling creativity; Co-creation of learning with students and employees.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion: EDI Strategies; Engagement and conversations around specific characteristics; LGBTQ engagement; The role of religion in the university.

Community Engagement: The university and its neighbours; Working with deprived urban communities; Developing local researchers; Civic mission strategies.

I am also happy to discuss TNE, HR issues, student mental health and other issues as appropriate.
